Our merciful God

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon (Isaiah 55:7 KJV).

Our God is a wonderful, merciful God. Like the Father in the story of The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32 KJV), our God is waiting with open arms for those of us who have gone astray and lost our way. God is waiting for all to come unto him and repent. Just like the prodigal son remembered how good his Father was to the hired servants, we must remember how good God is to his people. It is the goodness of our God which should lead us to repentance (Romans 2:4 KJV). The prodigal son humbled himself in Luke 15:18-19 KJV. He said “And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.” That's how sorry he was over his sins.

However, when he returned, his Father welcomed him with open arms instead of punishing him for his sins. Upon repentance and trust in his father, “…the Father said to his servants, ‘Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet; And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat and be merry, For this son was dead, and is alive again: he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to be merry,” (Luke 15:22-24 KJV).

Just like the Prodigal Son's Father, our Heavenly Father will have joy over us when we return unto him and ask for forgiveness of our sins. God will lay out the red carpet for us when we sincerely repent of our sins.

Father God, I pray we realize how great and merciful you are toward us. I pray that we would humble ourselves before you in sincerity and truth.  For we know that you are righteous and just to forgive us of our sins.
